Overview

This unit provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate clinical competency (knowledge, attitudes and skills) of a mental health nurse. You will be expected to function within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in accordance with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses standards of professional practice during your clinical placement in a mental health context. The clinical practicum will involve you having experiences in a range of mental health settings. You will be expected to apply the acquired knowledge and skills learnt throughout the course in the provision of quality holistic consumer focused care and interventions. In some circumstances, the clinical placement in this unit may incur a cost . Please contact the School prior to enrolling to ascertain whether a cost is likely to be incurred.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Title Practical Assessment
Task Description

Students will be required to undertake 700 hours of clinical practicum. under the supervision of professional mental health staff. A list of negotiated goals and objectives will be ratified in week one with each student to ensure both the course objectives and the learning needs of students are met.

Assessment Due Date The formative assessment to be completed in week 6 and the summative completed by week 12. to be completed by week 12 of Term
